Picky Eating Without Pressure
In this practical online course, Child Nutrition Educator and Early Years Development Specialist Jane Mynhardt shares a supportive, step-by-step approach to picky eating, helping parents better understand their child’s eating behaviour, reduce pressure and conflict around food, and create calmer, more positive mealtimes. Rather than focusing on getting children to “eat more” or “try everything,” the course helps parents understand their role in feeding, trust their child’s appetite, and build a healthy relationship with food through connection, consistency, and pressure-free strategies.

Why choose this course?
Picky eating can turn something as ordinary as a family meal into one of the most stressful parts of the day. When a child repeatedly refuses food, eats only a small range of familiar foods, or seems uninterested in meals, parents can quickly begin to worry that they are doing something wrong.
That worry can easily lead to pressure: asking for one more bite, negotiating, persuading, offering rewards, preparing multiple alternative meals, or constantly monitoring how much a child has eaten. While these responses usually come from a place of care, they can sometimes create even more tension around food.
I created this course to help parents approach picky eating from a different perspective.
As a Child Nutrition Educator, Early Years Development Specialist, and former baby teacher, I have worked with hundreds of children and families throughout my career. As a mother myself, I also understand how emotional feeding your own child can become and how difficult it can be to know when to encourage, when to intervene, and when to simply trust.
Throughout the course, we move beyond simply asking, “How do I get my child to eat?” and begin looking at the bigger picture.
You will learn to understand picky eating and look beyond your child’s behaviour, clarify your role during mealtimes, recognise why pressure can backfire, and become more confident in trusting your child’s appetite.
From there, we move into practical strategies you can use in everyday family life. You will learn how to build pressure-free plates, establish calmer and more predictable mealtime routines, and use connection and positive modelling to support your child’s relationship with food.
Importantly, this course does not define success as getting your child to suddenly eat everything.
Instead, you will learn how to recognise progress without pressure: less conflict around food, greater comfort at the table, more curiosity, increased trust, and a healthier overall mealtime environment.
By the end of the course, you will have a clearer understanding of your child’s eating behaviour and a practical framework for responding to picky eating with greater confidence and less anxiety. The goal is not perfect eating—it is to create an environment where your child can gradually develop a more positive and confident relationship with food, while making mealtimes calmer and more enjoyable for the whole family.
